This master's level program, fully online, provides individuals who have a baccalaureate degree in a content subject the opportunity to become initially certified to teach that subject in grades 7-12 in New York state. Adolescent 5-12 Literacy Extension Advanced Certificate
The Adolescent 5-12 Literacy Extension Advanced Certificate of Study (ACS) program is designed for SBU graduates who have already earned their MSED Childhood Literacy B-6 degree. This ACS extends a current Childhood Literacy certification by adding qualifications to teach reading in adolescent grades 5-12. This online program is available only to those who completed SBU's MSED Childhood Literacy program between 2000 and 2020.

The undergraduate program in Visual Arts includes courses from the university’s core curriculum, courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art electives. A portfolio review is required at the end of the second semester of study. A senior thesis/exhibition is the student’s culminating experience and is a requirement for graduation. The undergraduate major in Sport Studies, offered by the physical education department, provides students with the opportunity to explore sport, movement disciplines, exercise and wellness experiences within a trans-disciplinary curriculum. Four cognate areas of specialization are available: human development and learning, human movement sciences, personal and team coaching, and sports management. We have three pathways for students who just aren't ready to declare a major: one for students who wish to explore all of their options during their first year or two, as well as separate program tracks for students who are undecided but leaning toward a major in the School of Business, and for undecideds wishing to explore programs in the Jandoli School of Communication.

Women's Studies (BA & Minor)

World Languages & Cultural Studies
Competency in a foreign language is one of the hallmarks of the liberally educated person. The Department of World Languages and Cultural Studies offers a major and minor in Spanish, a minor in Arabic and Islamic Studies, as well as courses for academic credit in French, Italian and Latin. (The minor in Classics incorporates courses in Latin.) Note: Courses in the Seneca language are offered as part of Native American & Indigenous Studies program.
